This year's block of the month quilt will be "Stories from the Park".
The blocks will be 12" x 12" finished size. You need to
cut the background fabric 13" x 13". After you finish the
applique part, trim the block to 12.5" x 12.5". Download the
BOM pattern and print it on a 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. Center
the pattern on a 13" x 13" background fabric to fit each applique piece
to the background.
It's up to you as to how you finish your quilt. You may add inner
borders between blocks if you wish. I use bright colors and 100%
cotton flannel, pre-washed. I recommend joining all 12 blocks
then finishing the quilt with a 5"outer border consisting of two inches
of purple and three inches of outermost back flannel. In
this manner, the finished quilt will be 50" x
62".
I hope your enjoy the Stories from the Park quilt! Any questions please e-mail me.
June Block, Karner Blue Butterfly
The Karner Blue Butterfly is an endangered species from my region of
the world, the Great Lakes. The life cycle of this butterfly is
tied to the Lupine plant that grows in dry soils of pine and oak
forests. The caterpillars of this species feeds exclusively on
the Lupine leaves. The butterfly is small, about an inch.
They hatch twice each year, once from eggs that survive the
winter, and once from eggs hatched in Autumn.
