2008 BOM, Sunshine and Shadows with Birds of Wisconsin
September Block, Blue Jay
home
By popular choice my BOM quilt for 2008 is birds of Wisconsin. I
love to feed the birds, and spend hours watching them out the back
window of my house. I saw an 1800's log-cabin style quilt at a
show called "Sunshine & Shadows". I fell in love with it and
wanted to make a variation of it. I hope you enjoy making this
quilt. Finished quilt size without a border is 54 by 72 inches.
After you add a log-cabin border, it's 72 by 90 inches.
The Blue Jay is native to North America. It is omnivorous,
aggressive, and adaptable. The bird has a variety of calls, and
can learn to mimic human speech. Blue Jays sometimes gang up on
an enemy. Their blue color is not a pigment, but comes from the
structure of the feather, thus if a feather is crushed, the blue goes
away.
