The Jack-in-the-Pulpit is a herbacious perennial that occurs in moist woodland thickets from Nova Scotia west to Minnesota, and as far south as Florida.  It has trifoliate leaves that are often confused with poison ivy.  The flowers have a spathe (the pulpit), and a spadix (the jack).  It flowers from April lto June.  The Rhododendron is a large genus with over 1000 species, most of which have showy flower displays.  It grows as bushes and small trees and includes what gardeners call azaleas.
