Wildflower Basket 2007 BOM, April Blocks, Mayapple and Mallow

The mayapple flower blooms in early May. The "apple portion" of
the plant appears in the summer. This deadly poisonous flower
grows in colonies in open woodland. The flower is small and
white, the leaf can be a single umbrella type or a twin, or
(rarely) a three leaf structure. Any portion of the plant will
kill a person within 24 hours. The fruit causes sickness.
Mallow is the common name for several plants of the same genera
in the family Mavaceae. Malva species are commonly called Mallow,
with alternate palmately lobed leaves and flowers of 0.5 to 5 cm in
diameter. several of these species can be consumed as a leafy
green vegetable.
