Six-hundred million years ago in the age referred to by geologists as
the Cambrian Period, a little three lobed animal called the tilobite
was the dominant complex form of life on earth. The trilobite
florished in shallow seas for 300 million
years, including the sea that covered Wisconsin at the time.
One can find trilobite fossils in the limestones, and sometimes
in the dolomites in this state.
